Ryan Broekhoff will join Kyle Adnam and Mitch Creek on the South East Melbourne Phoenix leadership group for NBL23.
"The elevation of Ryan into a leadership role is a natural progression. His importance to the team was obvious to all last year. His leadership and guidance of his teammates is invaluable and being elevated to the leadership group is just reward," Head Coach Simon Mitchell said. "Mitch and Kyle have been leaders in the locker room and on the floor since the clubs inception and its great they're recognised once again in these roles."
All three players bring a different style of leadership, and the combination of their personalities, skill sets and experiences mean the Phoenix culture will continue to grow and evolve.
(This will be Brokehoff's maiden year as leader for the Phoenix after being at the club since 2021.)
Broekhoff said he was honoured to be named as part of the leadership team that represents where he grew up.
"I am honoured and excited to be named in the leadership group along with Creeky and Kyle. All three of us have strong leadership qualities that are slightly different but compliment each other. I’m ready to help lead this club into an exciting season," Broekhoff said.
Kyle Adnam was excited to share the leadership responsibility alongside Broekhoff and Creek.
"Super excited to lead the club again for NBL23, to be alongside Rowdy and Creeky is awesome. there are a lot of different aspects to leading a club and I think we have a great balance between the three of us," he said. "I’ll continue to lead by example and do as much as we can to grow the clubs identity on and off the court. We Can’t wait to get going."
(Adnam is excited to lead alongside Broekhoff and Creek this season.)
Creek said he was looking forward to leading the club with both Broekhoff and Adnam.
"It’s an honour to stand side-by-side with all my teammates but especially Rowdy and Kyle. We have had a long standing relationship and excited to see what this team can do this year. Just like every year we always aim for the absolute top, it's time to start chipping away and to see where we can push this incredible squad," Creek said.
(Creek is ready to lead this team to the top for NBL23.)
CEO Tommy Greer praised all three players for their commitment to the Phoenix both on and off the court.
"All three players are exceptional leaders both on and off the court," Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said. "They are all fan favourites, but importantly they are strong leaders in our work in the community of South East Melbourne. They are all dedicated top making this club the best it can be, and to also leave an impact on the people of the Heartland."
