The Coverforce Heartland Crew is the backbone of South East Melbourne Phoenix. They volunteer their time to make game day the best for Phoenix fans and less stress for front office staff, players and coaches.
Meet Luke Swan
Age: 40
How long have you been volunteering with South East Melbourne Phoenix, and why did you join the Coverforce Heartland Crew?
Since the inaugural year, so 3 years.
What is your role/job while volunteering at Phoenix?
MC Host Minder with the CMS (Event Presentation) crew. Basically I help the on court MC person on game days with directing them when to do voice overs on ads and when we are required for the on court activations at quarter, half and three-quarter time breaks.
What is your favourite thing about volunteering with Phoenix?
Being part of a professional sporting organisation.
What has been your highlight of your time with the Phoenix?
Getting up close to so many great basketball players.
(Luke Swan has been part of the Heartland Crew since the first year.)
What do you love about the club?
That it is so heavily community focused in the South East of Melbourne.
Are you involved with basketball outside of game days?
No, I used to play a bit in my junior days but not since.
Is a career in basketball something you would like to pursue?
If an opportunity presented itself, I'd definitely be interested.
What is your day job or are you studying?
I work in the hospitality industry.
Who is your favourite Phoenix player?
Too hard to split between Kyle Adnam and Mitch Creek. Both have been with the club since day 1.
