The 30-year-old pulled up sore after training this week, and has subsequently been ruled out of the game.
Browne will be assessed for the Phoenix’s home opener against the Perth Wildcats on Sunday.
Phoenix Head of High Performance Eric Hollingsworth said:
“Gary unfortunately aggravated his hip during a practice session in the lead up to the season opener,” Hollingsworth said.
“We expect Gary’s recovery time to be minimal, and we will monitor his progress daily to ensure he is fully fit for our upcoming games.”
Development Player Kody Stattmann will be elevated to the full roster during Browne’s recovery period.
Alan Williams will remain out of the side as he recovers from knee surgery and will be replaced by Tyler Cook. Gorjok Gak will also miss the opening round as he recovers from an ankle injury and will be replaced by development player, Anzac Rissetto.
In good news, Matt Kenyon will play his first game for the Phoenix tomorrow night.
