"It’s going to be a great event with all ten NBL teams in the one place for the opening round, and I can’t wait to experience it."
Global tennis star and part owner of the South East Melbourne Phoenix, Nick Kyrgios, is set to elevate Australia’s biggest ever basketball event, HoopsFest, in Western Australia from September 19.
Kyrgios, who has won seven ATP tour singles titles, a doubles Grand Slam and was ranked number 13 in the world, will join basketball legends and celebrities including former NBA superstars Carmelo Anthony and Luc Longley, and world-renowned DJ, Hayden James.
“It’s going to be a great event with all ten NBL teams in the one place for the opening round, and I can’t wait to experience it,” Kyrgios said.
“I love seeing the Phoenix in person any chance I get, and it will be my first time seeing the teams new additions Nathan Sobey, Jordy Hunter, Derrick Walton Jnr and Angus Glover playing together.
“It’s a new era for basketball for the Phoenix in the Heartland and HoopsFest is going to be a great way for us to start our season.”

(Kyrgios joined the Phoenix ownership in 2023 joining Romie Chaduhari, ex-NBA stars John Wall, Al Harrington, Zach Randolph, Johsh Childress, and Australian Boomer Dante Exum,)
Kyrgios’ keen interest in the NBL was enhanced when he became part owner of the South East Melbourne Phoenix in January last year.
“Nick is a celebrated athlete with a global following and we are thrilled to have him attend HoopsFest as a special guest alongside other high-profile celebrities,” NBL Chief Fans, Club and Strategy Officer, Anthony Everard, said.
“I’m sure he’ll enjoy getting up and close to his new-look Phoenix side and we think basketball fans are going to love seeing him amongst all the festivities and events we have planned across the week.”
The 2024/25 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season begins in Perth with the inaugural HoopsFest from September 19-22. The Phoenix begin their NBL25 campaign against the Perth Wildcats on Friday, September 20 at 8:30pm AEST. You can get your tickets via HoopsFest.com.au
