A game with the roof open at John Cain Arena and four tantalising Throwdowns headline the South East Melbourne Phoenix schedule for NBL25.
For the first time in the club’s history, they’ll play with no roof in what has proven such a successful drawcard for their crosstown rivals.
The summer weather and Melbourne’s iconic skyline will be on full show when the Phoenix meet the Adelaide 36ers on Saturday, December 21.
The Phoenix will also host the traditional season opener slot on Thursday, September 26 when the first Throwdown against Melbourne United gets underway on the eve of the AFL Grand Final holiday.

That game will come on the back of the inaugural HoopsFest in Perth – where each of the 10 NBL teams descend on Western Australia to officially open the season - and where Mike Kelly’s team will take on the Perth Wildcats.
The four Throwdowns will be spread across the campaign as the league’s fiercest rivals again meet in October (20th), December (15th) and February (8th) to round out the regular season.
Cementing themselves as a must-watch around Victoria’s public holidays, the Phoenix will host the Wildcats on the Sunday eve of the Melbourne Cup.
Avid basketball fans will be circling October 12 on the calendar to see new Phoenix guard Nathan Sobey take on his former side Brisbane for the first time since his headline-grabbing exit from the Bullets in the recent off-season.
South East Melbourne will make their annual pilgrimage to Gippsland on January 11, and they’ll be looking for redemption this year after Illawarra wiped their unblemished record in Traralgon last December.
That matchup comes before the Phoenix host three games in a week in the Heartland at the State Basketball Centre, giving fans an atmosphere like no other in the 3,000 capacity stadium.
That trio of games will include Sydney’s only trip south to face the Phoenix, where’ll they’ll come up against former Kings champions Derrick Walton Jr, Angus Glover and Jordan Hunter.
1990’s NBL fans will have a trip down memory lane when the Phoenix pay tribute to the competition-conquering South East Melbourne Magic this season.
The Phoenix will host three games in the family-friendly slot of 2.30pm on Sunday and will be on free-to-air four times thanks to Channel 10’s ramped up coverage of the NBL season in 2024-25.

South East Melbourne CEO Tommy Greer said the fixture was an excellent opportunity to showcase what the Phoenix offer both on and off the court.
“We’re really excited to be able to show off our new roster build in front of as many eyes as possible in stadium and on the TV,” Greer said.
“But the fixture also gives us to showcase our premier game day entertainment, and every season we get an opportunity to build on that.
“As the league grows and we get more fans watching basketball in Australia, it’s a great time to be a part of the Phoenix.”
