The Sydney Kings have shown they are still very much a force to be reckoned with in NBL21 after an impressive 97-90 victory against South East Melbourne Phoenix at Qudos Bank Arena.
Down by seven points in the second quarter, the Kings outscored the Phoenix 28-12 in a dominant third quarter on their way to a much needed win after two consecutive losses.
Next Star Didi Louzada (28 points, eight rebounds) was the standout for the Kings, while Daniel Kickert (17 points) and Brad Newley (17 points, six rebounds) contributed strongly off the bench.
Playing his 50th NBL game, Jordan Hunter (11 points, six rebounds, six blocks) helped fill the void left by star import Jarell Martin, who missed the game with a knee injury.
Phoenix development player Izayah Le’afa continued his stunning season by scoring 29 points and hitting eight three-pointers in a sizzling display off the bench.
Le'afa has been a revalation for the Phoenix this season as a defensive beast off the bench but is also proving himself as scoring threat.
Ben Moore started the game hot with 11 points in the first term and ended with 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in an impressive all-round display.
Mitch Creek (17 points) and Adam Gibson (seven) also contributed in the loss.
The Phoenix still sit third on the NBL ladder and return home to face Adelaide at John Cain Arena on Saturday.
