The Phoenix are set to make history in NBL26, taking over the Latrobe City with two games in four days as the club officially launches the Gippsland Festival of Basketball.
The four-day celebration is designed to boost tourism in the Latrobe Valley while deepening the Phoenix’s connection with the community and growing the game across the region.
Basketball fans of all ages are invited to hit the road to Latrobe City and enjoy not only world-class hoops, but some of Victoria’s finest food, drink and regional experiences.
The Festival will showcase the Phoenix’s strong community presence — bridging on-court performance with real impact — through school and association programs, local business engagement, and grassroots participation opportunities.
Fans can look forward to a packed schedule, including:
- Phoenix Schools Visit Day (Nov 27): A region-wide outreach bringing Phoenix players and coaches into classrooms to inspire students, promote healthy lifestyles, and grow the game at the grassroots level.
- 3x3 Schools Cup supported by Basketball Victoria (Dec 13): Embedding the fast-paced Olympic discipline into the Heartland — as local students battle for bragging rights in an action-packed day of competition and community connection.
- Basketball Association & Business Roundtable: Strengthening ties between sport, local industry, and regional leaders through collaboration and shared growth initiatives.
- Phoenix Fan Zone – Ignite Cup Edition: A high-energy pre-game hub with entertainment, giveaways, and interactive activations designed to turn spectators into participants.
- Regional Coaching Seminar & Next Gen Pathway Session: Delivering elite-level insights to regional basketball coaches and aspiring elite athletes, bridging the gap between professional basketball and community sport development.

The Festival is all about celebrating basketball in the Heartland according to Phoenix CEO Simon Derrick — while encouraging families to turn game day into a full regional getaway.
“We’re extremely excited to be playing two games in four days in Gippsland. We’ll remain in the region for the entirety of the week and we’re encouraging everyone to do the same,” Derrick said.
“There’s so much to experience — from the food, wine, spas and art scene — and what better way to bookend those adventures than with two Phoenix games in the Heartland.”
NBL26 marks the fifth straight year that the Phoenix have hit the court in Gippsland, currently holding a 3–1 record at the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium.
With sell-outs expected, fans are urged to secure their seats early.
