Broekhoff Denies Lurking Retirement Rumours

South East Melbourne co-captain Ryan Broekhoff has quashed rumours of an impending retirement, as the guard continues his recovery from a groin injury suffered against Perth in Round 16.
The former Dallas Maverick has struggled to gain consistent time on court this season as he has battled a raft of different injury issues over the campaign.
The Phoenix famously found themselves out of the finals in NBL22 courtesy of a late season slide in the absence of the then-injured Broekhoff, and they’ll be hoping to avoid the same fate this season.
“I’ve got no plans to retire,” Broekhoff told News Corp. “I’m focusing on getting back and finishing the season right now, and maybe it’s just because I’m out of contract at the end of the season.
“That might be just what has sparked it all.”
Barring any late drama, the Phoenix look likely to qualify for the NBL23 post-season, and Broekhoff will be fighting to re-gain fitness ahead of any potential finals campaign.
South East Melbourne has a bye in Round 18 as they have already played all 28 of their games this season.
