The South East Melbourne Phoenix can today confirm the release of Hunter Maldonado from the remainder of his contract, effective immediately.
Maldonado featured in 16 games for the Phoenix this season, averaging 8.9 points and 4.3 assists.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell thanked Maldonado for his professionalism during his time with the club.
“Hunter was extremely committed to the program and his work-ethic exemplary, even during the trying times of his injury issues which should be applauded,” Mitchell said.
“He has done everything asked of him by the coaching staff, is much beloved by his teammates and this decision is by no means based on performance. However, this team now has different personnel and skillsets from that which was assembled in preseason, and we feel the team requires a different look if we are to make a deep run in the play-offs."
The Phoenix will announce a replacement player in due course.
