The Coverforce Heartland Crew is the backbone of South East Melbourne Phoenix. They volunteer their time to make game day the best for Phoenix fans and less stress for front office staff, players and coaches.
Meet Kalani O'Connor
How long have you been volunteering with South East Melbourne Phoenix, and why did you join the Heartland Crew?
I started volunteering with the Phoenix since the inaugural season and I got into it because a job in sports specifically basketball is what I want for my future.
(Kalani has been volunteering with the club since our inaugural season.)
What is your role/job while volunteering at Phoenix?
My role/job on game days is generally court sweeper as well as helping with activations on the concourse.
What is your favourite thing about volunteering with Phoenix?

What has been your highlight of your time with the Phoenix?
Definitely in season 1 when John Roberson went off against the Taipans.
What do you love about the club?
Something I love about the club is the family feel, as well as how they are one of those clubs that get into the community with camps and school visits.
(Kalani has covered many roles during his time with the Phoenix.)
Are you involved with basketball outside of game days?
I just play domestic basketball outside of game days.
Is a career in basketball something you would like to pursue?
A career in basketball is definitely something I would like to pursue.

My day job is stocktaking.
Who is your favourite Phoenix player?
Favourite Phoenix player definitely has to be X as he is a ex Wisconsin herd and Milwaukee bucks player.
