Defence a drawcard for D’Shawn Schwartz

The versatile American forward said Head Coach Josh King's high-pressure, full-court defensive philosophy was one of the biggest factors behind his decision to sign with the Phoenix.

"I think he's bringing a different brand of basketball... Really fast, picking up full court. A lot of threes. I think it fits my game."

Although known for his shooting, Schwartz believes defence is the next step in his development.

"I'm 27... I'd like to play a long career... Here the big thing will really be defence... that's the identity of this team."

He said he discovered a passion for full-court defence in Europe.

"For me it's about how can I impose my will on the game... I started picking up full court late last year and just fell in love with it."

Schwartz also highlighted his versatility, saying he can defend multiple positions, handle the ball and stretch the floor, giving the Phoenix valuable flexibility throughout the season.
