South East Melbourne Phoenix club doctor, Dr Peter Harcourt has been inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame.
Dr Harcourt has been with the club since year one and has been an integral member of the performance team, employing his years of experience to keep Phoenix players fit and healthy for the NBL seasons.
"Having a medical professional of Dr Harcourt's calibre has been a massive plus for our club," Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said. "We are extremely proud of his induction into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame and congratulate him on a wonderful career."
Harcourt’s career has spanned 40 years across multiple sporting codes. In addition to acting as Basketball Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, team doctor for the Opals, Boomers and many junior teams, he has worked in the AFL, and Commonwealth Games.
“As a doctor I have been involved in basketball, NBL and national teams for around 40 years. This experience has enriched me so much because of the quality of the people who work and compete in that industry,” said Harcourt.
“This is particularly true working at SEM Phoenix over the last 3 years. The professionalism, dedication, and effort of Phoenix’s people, not just the players, has been inspiring. Because of these relationships and experiences, from being a part of the basketball family, being elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame is such an honour and very humbling.”
Dr Harcourt will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 1 along with Chris Anstey, Michelle Brogan, Penny Taylor and Andrew Gaze who is being elevated to Legend status.
