The Phoenix Academy is set for a boost this season, with Fleet Plant Hire Solutions coming on board as the naming rights partner of the program.
The partnership will see the program officially become the Fleet Plant Hire Solutions Phoenix Academy, supporting one of the fastest-growing development programs in Victorian basketball.
An emerging high-performance academy, the Phoenix Academy provides local athletes aged 12–17 with an opportunity to develop their skills, experience a structured high-performance environment and gain an insight into the demands of an elite basketball pathway.
With more than 100 athletes currently involved, the Academy continues to grow as the Phoenix look to provide more opportunities for young players across Melbourne’s south-east to develop their game.
Sessions are held twice a week under the guidance of Academy Head Coach Zoe Zwerling, with the program designed by Phoenix Assistant Coach and Australian pathways coach Luke Brennan.
The program focuses on developing athletes both on and off the court, with players exposed to the standards, habits and expectations required to progress through basketball’s pathway system.
Phoenix Chief Executive Simon Derrick welcomed Fleet Plant Hire Solutions to the Phoenix Academy and said the partnership would help the club continue investing in the next generation of players.
“The Academy is an important part of what we’re building at the Phoenix. We want young players in our region to have access to a high-quality basketball environment and to understand what it takes to progress towards the elite level,” Derrick said.
“Having a partner like Fleet Plant Hire Solutions come on board allows us to continue investing in that program and create more opportunities for young athletes in our community.
“For us, pathways are about more than just producing basketball players. It’s about giving young people an environment where they can develop their skills, build confidence, learn from experienced coaches and understand what a high-performance environment looks like.”
Fleet Plant Hire Solutions Managing Director Chris West said it was great to play a role in the next generation of basketball players.
“We’re proud to support the Phoenix Academy and the opportunities it creates for young athletes. There’s a lot of work that goes into developing young people, both in their sport and as individuals, and we really value being able to play a small part in that journey,” West said.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the Academy continue to grow and more young athletes get the opportunity to pursue their goals.”
The Fleet Plant Hire Solutions Phoenix Academy will continue to train twice weekly throughout the season, with athletes working across technical development, physical preparation, game understanding and the broader requirements of high-performance basketball.
