Gliddon Finds Solace in Challenging Year

It’s been nothing short of a wild 2020 for the Gliddon family.

Amidst the chaos of COVID-19 in Victoria, Cam made the move to South East Melbourne Phoenix with his wife, Sarah and baby daughter, Penny in July.

Following a year where he was a member of the fourth-placed Boomers FIBA World Cup squad, one of the highest honours for any professional basketball player, Gliddon’s move to the Heartland has brought life back into perspective.

The couple swiftly moved into their new Melbourne home after the signing and are slowly acclimatising to the community they now call home.

Speaking on the PNX Player Catch Ups podcast, Gliddon says the difficult circumstances has offered a silver lining for his young family.

“Moving house so quickly and moving to a state that’s in lockdown has been challenging,” Gliddon said. “Adjusting my life to having a new baby and trying to figure out how to work at 100 per cent then come home and give 100 per cent as well can get pretty tiring.

“It’s been tough but at the same time it’s been pretty rewarding to be home with my daughter and spend a lot of time with her. A lot of people that have kids this age are going to work from nine-to-five and not getting to watch them grow so if there’s been a positive about it all, it’s been that.”

The 31-year-old also gave a glowing review of his new teammate Kyle Adnam, who’s been a standout at pre-season training throughout the extended off-season period.

The pair teamed up with the Boomers in February along with Dane Pineau for two Asia Cup qualifiers before reuniting following Gliddon’s move to the Phoenix months later.

Gliddon says the excitement machine dubbed ‘Wild Kyle’ has surprised him at training.

“I’ve been very surprised. It’s just been awesome to watch him and compete with him on the court at training,” he said.

“He’s a really, really, good player and someone I didn’t know was that good before coming in.”

Gliddon also touches on being the second-best athlete in his hometown of Bunbury, growing up as a West Coast Eagles fan, a theme parks rumour and more in the fun podcast.
