South East Melbourne Phoenix is proud to be supporting the inaugural 2022 Heartland Tournament ran by Knox, Frankston, and Kilsyth basketball associations.
“After a few false starts due to Covid we are beyond excited to see entries are open for the inaugural Heartland Tournament to be held on Melbourne Cup Weekend. A significant section of our supporters young and old are involved in domestic teams whether playing or helping out across South East Melbourne, so it was an easy decision to get behind the inaugural Heartland Tournament,” Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said.
“A lot of kids don’t get the opportunity to play in fun tournament-style competitions, which we believe is a great way to bring the community together and form stronger bonds within domestic clubs.
“We look forward to being a visible presence at the event and inspiring the next generation of Phoenix stars in what we see as a long-term addition to the Heartland basketball calendar,” Greer said.

The Heartland Tournament will be held across the Melbourne Cup weekend on October 29th and 30th, being held across three major South East basketball associations.
The tournament will be run by Knox, Frankston, and Kilsyth basketball associations, giving domestic clubs across the South East the opportunity to play like their Heartland Heroes across a tournament style weekend.
The tournament will be held at Frankston Basketball Stadium, State Basketball Stadium/Knox Basketball Stadium and Kilsyth Basketball giving participants a chance to travel across the South East and compete against teams in the Heartland. Each host venue will have a carnival atmosphere with a range of activities available to entertain everyone playing or not.
(A wheelchair division will be able to participate in the Heartland Tournament.)
"Knox Basketball is extremely excited and also very proud to see the 2022 Heartland Domestic Tournament get off the ground and take place, as this was an initiative led by Knox and has been three years in the making," Knox CEO Grant Harrison said.
Heartland Tournament is open to all age groups, grades, and a wheelchair division, allowing players of all abilities to get involved and enjoy the unique experience of travelling together, spending time with friends and competing with teams across the Heartland.
“This is going to be the biggest and best domestic tournament in Australia, and we are proud to be involved with SEM Phoenix, Knox basketball and Kilsyth basketball in the exciting tournament,” FDBA GM Wayne Holdsworth said.
"Many players - particularly those who don't play representative basketball - don't get the chance to play in a tournament environment or against kids outside of their association, so this is a great opportunity for them," Kilsyth GM Will van Poppel said.

Please note, this tournament is open to domestic teams only and must be the team you play for weekly.
