South East Melbourne Phoenix started their pre-season this week and hit the court for the first time on Wednesday August 10 to take on St Mary’s University, at Frankston stadium.
The US based college team, and centre Dane Pineau's alma mater, are on a tour down under playing multiple NBL clubs and basketball associations in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth in early August.
“I loved my time at St Mary’s, and I’m really excited to see the coaches that I’m still friends with now. It’s going to be strange playing against them, and we’ll have to play hard because I know they will,” St Mary’s Alumni Dane Pineau said.
Phoenix take on St Mary’s at 7pm on Wednesday August 10 at Frankston Basketball Centre.
“We are incredibly proud to be able to host this game for the Frankston basketball community and the Heartland," Frankston District Basketball Association Wayne Holdsworth said.
“South East Melbourne Phoenix has been frequently training in our stadium for the past 12 months, and this is a great extension of our partnership.
“We hope to see lots of junior domestic clubs represented in the crowd, cheering for the Phoenix!”
Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said he was excited to be taking a pre-season game to one of the biggest associations in the Heartland.
“It’s fantastic to head down to Frankston to play a pre-season game against a NCAA team in St Mary’s. It’s a great chance to connect with our fans and for our players to get a run after the off-season,” CEO Tommy Greer said.
Limited tickets are available to see Phoenix for the first time since April.
