Centre Dane Pineau is recovering strongly from a back injury that has seen him miss the start of the NBL21 season.
The big man has begun to join parts of training and is starting to move more freely as he eyes a return to the hardwood.
Pending any possible setbacks, Pineau is aiming to make his return in the latter stages of the NBL Cup or soon after.
Yanni Wetzell has been doing a stellar job as starting centre for the Phoenix and is set to form an impressive duo with his fellow big.
Phoenix Coach Simon Mitchell has mentioned defensive rebounding as an area of improvement for the team a few times this season, which will be greatly boosted by Pineau’s return.
The 206cm fan favourite is also an elite defender and was nominated for the NBL’s Defensive Player of the Year award last season.
