According to GPS data, Phoenix Next Star Malique Lewis is statistically one of the hardest-working Phoenix players this pre-season.
High-level performance data – tracked at every on-court training session and gym session captured using accelerometer and gyroscope technology - shows Lewis has one of the highest outputs recorded.
The data measures both the amount of work performed at training and the intensity the training efforts.
Key indicators such as running levels, changes of direction and general player load are taken into consideration with each of the players required to wear a Catapult unit when in training so high-performance staff can pour over the data and adjust sessions accordingly.
Despite being the second-youngest player on the roster at just 19-years-old, Lewis sits atop the list.
In data captured during the Phoenix’s pre-season battle with Melbourne United, the average player output was a score of 582, Lewis’s output was a mammoth 933 which led the pack.
Alongside him in testing are returning Phoenix stars Ben Ayre and Matt Kenyon, as well as off-season recruit Derrick Walton Jr.
Phoenix High Performance Manager Luke Vella believes the data shows Lewis’s dogged determination and level of competitiveness inside the four walls of the gym.
‘The numbers speak to Malique’s great work ethic and attitude towards every session, you can see he wants to get better and from the day he’s stepped in the building, he’s shown that,” Vella told Phoenix Media.
“He currently has the highest output of high intensity work from any of our players and his trajectory is astronomical if he keeps on his way.”
You can catch Lewis and the Phoenix during the NBL Blitz in the Gold Coast with two remaining games against the Sydney Kings tomorrow night and Adelaide 36ers on Friday night. Both games will be streamed via Kayo Sports or you can follow the action via Phoenix's socials.
