Keep Getting Better

The Phoenix are down, but certainly not out if head coach Mike Kelly has anything to say about it.
Despite a 1-3 record to begin NBL24, it’s not all doom and gloom for the incumbent coach who has been dealt roster blow after roster blow.
"It's frustrating with a group I think has the talent to be very good in this league,” Kelly said post-match.
“At the same time, I just look forward to having everybody back and building and learning from each game.”

Kelly hasn’t yet had either Alan Williams or Gorjok Gak take the court in season proper, and injury replacement and NBL Blitz MVP Tyler Cook also missed the Hawks clash with an eye abrasion.
South East Melbourne stunned title-hopefuls Perth in their second hit-out, getting out to as much as a 30-point lead at the Fire Pit, but while a fire was lit under the Phoenix, it was somewhat doused after road trip losses to both Cairns and Illawarra.
But despite losses, Kelly is imploring his brigade to stand tall and stay together.
"I want people to think our guys play hard and they're brave, and they play for each other.”
"Great effort doesn't always do it; it's got to be great effort and playing really smart at the same time."
The Phoenix have a full week to recover and prepare themselves before their round three game against the Tasmania JackJumpers, who are currently 2-1, at the Fire Pit on Saturday night.
