The pre-season ended on a high for the South East Melbourne Phoenix after a win against crosstown rivals, Melbourne United.
Round one is just a few days away as the team prepare to make their return to the Fire Pit at John Cain Arena and for the first time since May 2021 to play in front of Melbourne fans.
(Kyle Adnam makes a layup against United.)
“Taking a win over them (Melbourne United) earlier in the year, gives you confidence into the year as well,” Kyle Adnam said on the 2-point win over United on Tuesday morning joining Gary and Tim on SEN Breakfast.
Adnam spoke on the season opener with what fans and spectators can expect from the side, with the intensity risen and under controlled momentum on show during the pre-season games.
“Fans can expect a lot of action with dunks and fast breaks and a lot of excitement,” he said.
(Phoenix will be able to play in front of fans for the first time since May.)
He also hyped-up teammate Ryan Broekhoff with his shooting of the ball being “extremely well”, along with the side turning over the ball less on the court.
“Excitement in the heartland is being felt around the club and even my circle of people is telling me how excited they are as well. A full crowd at John Cain is going to be amazing especially when we got a taste of a crowd in our final pre-season match in front of friends and family,” he said.
Phoenix are primed to take it one step further for NBL22 with the season opener against the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday, December 4th at 8pm at John Cain Arena.
