The former Memphis Grizzlies forward made an immediate impact in Australia, averaging 20.1 points and 7.4 rebounds in his first campaign, resulting in a top three finish in the Andrew Gaze Trophy.
Hurt also earned All-NBL First Team honours, becoming the first Phoenix player since Mitch Creek in NBL23 to secure the highly coveted spot.
Hurt also becomes the first player other than Mitch Creek to win the club’s highest individual honour, with Creek claiming the previous five awards.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell congratulated Hurt on a wonderful season in the Heartland.
“Matt had a wonderful season for the Phoenix and was a great addition both on and off the floor,” Mitchell said.
“His All-NBL first team selection was an indication of the respect he gained around the league and he is a deserving winner of our club MVP.”
