Phoenix head coach Josh King revealed he had Omari Moore circled as the number one target for the off-season, with the club signing the American today.

The 24-year-old American is the first import signing for the Heartland for NBL26, coming in to a stacked local squad as the Phoenix look to build on last season where they fell one game short of a maiden championship series.

King has already coached Moore for a short time at Darussafaka in Turkey before coming to the Phoenix in NBL25 and is impressed by his versatility he can bring to the team.

“He’s 6 foot 6, we will play him mostly at the point guard position, that is what his natural position is. But he can play the one, the two, the three, you can kind of use him all over in different spots,” King told NBL Now.

“(He’s a) high level IQ player, big time athlete, can get to the basket, makes lay-ups, pretty good jump shooter, three-point shooter…I’m just excited to have him here.”

King also praised Moore for the person he is off the court.

“He’s a better teammate than he is player. And he is a really good player, so he’s going to be really good for us.”

Moore was highly in demand before signing with the Phoenix and will be heading to the NBA Summer League in July before making the journey Down Under to Melbourne for start of pre-season in August.
