Angus Glover (Ringwood Hawks)
23PTS, 4REBS, 5ASTS vs Casey Cavaliers (W)
Angus Glover continues to put up video game numbers in NBL1 South, with another 20-plus point game over the weekend. The guard faced off against new Phoenix teammate Gorjok Gak and the Casey Cavaliers on Saturday night.
The Hawks rose to the challenge against the top-four side, with bragging rights going to Glover and his Hawks in a 16-point win. The result keeps the Hawks on the cusp of the top eight, currently sitting in 10th position, with the remaining three rounds crucial in their fight for a finals spot.
Gorjok Gak (Casey Cavillers)
6PTS, 3REBS, 1AST, 1STL, 1BLK vs Ringwood Hawks (L)
Unfortunately, Casey went down to the Hawks on Saturday night. Gak contributed off the bench, providing his side with size and recording six points and three rebounds.
Akech Aliir (Mt Gambier Pioneers)
20PTS, 6REBS, 3ASTS, 3STLS, 1BLK vs Melbourne Tigers (L)
In another top-four clash, the Pioneers took on the third-placed Melbourne Tigers on Friday night. The Andrew Gaze-led Tigers claimed the win over second-placed Mt Gambier. Despite the loss, Aliir continues his MVP-worthy season, scoring 20 points and working hard across the court with six rebounds and three steals.
Daniel Foster (Keilor Thunder)
22PTS, 13REBS, 8ASTS vs Eltham Wildcats (W)
The Phoenix development player was just shy of a double-double in last weekend’s game, Foster finally got his hands on it but this time fell just shy of a triple-double as he recorded 22 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in the Thunder’s 18-point win over Eltham Wildcats.
Nathan Sobey (Santeros de Aguada)
20PTS, 4REBS, 3ASTS, 1STL vs San German (L)
5PTS, 4REBS, 5ASTS vs Indios de Mayaguez (L)
Santeros de Aguada went 1–2 over the past week as the Puerto Rican league winds down. Despite a 15-point loss to San Germán on Thursday, Sobey was at his best, posting 20 points, four rebounds and three assists.
In the next match-up against Indios de Mayagüez, Sobey had a quieter game before sitting out the third fixture of the week — a continuation of an earlier match against Capitanes de Arecibo that was cut short due to a nationwide power outage. The game resumed from a 22–18 starting point, and Santeros ultimately came away with a victory by five points.
Sobey’s time in Puerto Rico is nearing its end, with only three games remaining. Unfortunately, his side, sitting on the bottom of the ladder, will not progress to the post-season.
