Off-Season Player Wrap Week 11

It's time to check in with how our players performed over the last week internationally in Puerto Rico and New Zealand and locally in NBL1 during the off-season.

Mitch Creek – Mets de Guaynabo – BSN League

Mitch Creek and The Mets have clinched a spot in the playoffs as they went 3-1 over the last week with one game remaining in the home and away season.

Last Wednesday saw the Mets take a seven-point win over Cangrejeros, with Mitch Creek contributing 22 points and six rebounds.

The Mets had back-to-back games over the weekend, starting with a three-point win over Grises de Humacao on Saturday. Creek was named player of the game with a 21-point, five rebounds and three assist effort.

Sunday’s game saw The Mets head to OT in a tight battle against San German. Creek’s team managed to snatch victory by six points. Creek again shone with 24 points in the win.

The final game in what was a long week for the Mets happened today against Leones de Ponce. Unfortunately, they went down by 10 points after a fightback from the opposition. Creek again was one of the main contributors with 20 points and six rebounds.

Creek: 20 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal.

The Mets have their final home and away game against the Gigantes de Carolina on Thursday.

Reuben Te Rangi – Auckland Tuatara – NZ NBL

Auckland Tuatara are on a roll as they secured their sixth win in a row and jumped to the top position on the ladder.

Reuben Te Rangi had a solid performance in the 13-point win over the Franklin Bulls with 17 points.

Te Rangi: 17 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 block.

Auckland return to the court on Saturday to see if they can make it seven in a row when they take on the Southland Sharks.

Ben Ayre – Sandringham Sabres – NBL1 South

With other NBL1 South teams having the long weekend off, the Sandringham Sabres took to the floor last Thursday to take on the Melbourne Tigers.

The Sabres had a 25-point win over the Tigers with Ben Ayre having another stand-out performance with 19 points, six rebounds, and eight assists. The win sees Sandringham move to third on the ladder.

Sandringham and Ayre look to continue their hot form against the Casey Cavaliers on Saturday.

Matt Kenyon – USC Rip City – NBL1 North

Matt Kenyon and USC Rip City went 1-1 over the weekend in NBL1 North.

The first game was a tight battle against the Northside Wizards with Rip City coming out on top by one point. Kenyon was one of the main contributors scoring a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Unfortunately, Rip City wasn’t able to back it up the next day with a nine-point loss to the Southern Districts Spartans. Kenyon backed up his performance with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Kenyon: 16 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals.

Rip City 80-89 Southern Districts Spartans
Kenyon: 14 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals.

Kenyon and Rip City will be looking to bounce back on Saturday against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

Anzac Rissetto – Taranaki Airs – NZ NBL

After a week off, Anzac Rissetto re-joined Taranaki Airs as they went on to secure their third win for the season over NBL23 Phoenix player Grant Anticevich’s Southland Sharks.

In the 10-point win, Rissetto had a solid return with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Taranaki will look to get back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Saturday when they take on the Manawatu Jets.

Gorjok Gak – Willetton Tigers – NBL1 West

Unfortunately, Gorjok Gak’s Willetton Tigers ended their four-game winning streak, going down to the Lakeside Lightning by 14-points on Saturday.

Gak had a quiet game on the scoring end registering three points but chipped in with nine rebounds and two blocks.

Willetton and Gak will be looking to bounce back when they return to the court on Friday to take on the Rockingham Flames.
