The NBL’s Indigenous Round kicks off Friday night as the Phoenix head to Adelaide to begin Round 14.
A quick turnaround has the Phoenix heading home to take on the Hawks on Sunday at the Fire Pit, Kangaroo Jack takes on naming rights of the Phoenix home game.
Kangaroo Jack joined Phoenix as the Official Indigenous Round Partner for NBL21/22 and NBL22/23 season.
Their aim is to create a meaningful change through education and engagement using the power of sport, in particular for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth as part of the Koorie Basketball Academy in Victoria.
(Phoenix and Kangaroo Jack have partnered up for Indigenous Round and creating merch to go towards the Koorie Academy.)
Kangaroo Jack also developed an official merchandise range for the round with 10 per cent of the proceeds going towards the Koorie Academy.
The Koorie Academy helps create a culturally safe and welcoming environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who may feel left out around the Victorian Aboriginal community.
The revenue will aid the Koorie Academy in helping Indigenous kids aged 6-17 to get involved in basketball and participate in cultural workshops around Victoria to give them a brighter future.
The merch will be available to buy at the game on Sunday as well.
Phoenix fans will also be able to pick up special edition Kangaroo Jack basketballs available at the game on Sunday and online for pre sale with 10 per cent of the proceeds going to Koorie Academy.

Indigenous artist Nathan Patterson, a proud Wagiman man from Pine Creek, Northern Territory currently living on the Surf Coast in Victoria, designed the artwork for the merchandise.
“There’s a lot of talent in the Indigenous community and it would be really great to see them more involved in basketball. We hope we can help out through this partnership to join in on that journey (with Kangaroo Jack and Koorie Academy),” Phoenix centre, Dane Pineau said.

Phoenix will wear their Indigenous jersey against the Adelaide 36ers and Illawarra Hawks. Designed by Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi woman, Katie Bugden, with the jersey’s main focus being Ngiyani (pronounced guy-anni) meaning ‘we all’ in Pama-Nyungan. ‘We all’ connects to Phoenix’s core value of community connection, it was this pillar of the club that heavily influenced Bugden’s design.
The Indigenous Jersey will also be on sale on game day at the merch stand.

Fans will also be treated to a Welcome to Country by Boon Wurrung Elder, Janet Galpin, a special Indigenous group performance pre-game by the Murrundaya Yepengna Dance Troupe, in addition to a special guest presenting the game day ball. This is a game no Phoenix or basketball fan will not want to miss.
