The first semi-final has been decided in the closest votes for the bracket as Adam Gibson advances to take on Mitch Creek. Now to see who will go through the next semi-final.
Starting between rebound king, 'Big Sauce' Alan Williams and the smooth moves Gary Browne.
ALAN WILLIAMS
Games: 43 | PPG: 16.6 | RPG: 10.2 | APG: 2.1 | SPG: 0.9
‘Big Sauce’ made a big impact in the Heartland in his two seasons with the Phoenix, leading the league in rebounds in both campaigns. A force inside, his rebounding and finishing ability at times made him the best big man in the competition.
Despite being hampered by injury, Williams’ impact in games was profound, highlighted by almost 40-straight games where he scored double-digits. A native Phoenician, it would be kismet that he would land at the Phoenix and his legacy will forever be etched in South East Melbourne’s history books.
GARY BROWNE
Games: 40 | PPG: 12.7 | RPG: 3.7 | APG: 5.5 | SPG: 1.3
Gary Browne’s two seasons with the Phoenix saw him lead the league in assists in his first before showing glimpses of brilliance in a second injury-affected campaign. The Puerto Rican’s ability to find a gap in even the slightest opening to find a teammate has been unparalleled in the Heartland. A national representative, Browne continues to be a thorn in opposition sides.
