Two quarter-finals have been decided with Mitch Creek vs. Kyle Adnam and Adam Gibson vs. Ben Ayre, but who will go through in the second half of of the bracket of 16.
It's big vs big in the next match up with rebounding kind 'Big Sauce' Alan Williams against big Kiwi Yanni Wetzell.
ALAN WILLIAMS
Games: 43 | PPG: 16.6 | RPG: 10.2 | APG: 2.1 | SPG: 0.9
‘Big Sauce’ made a big impact in the Heartland in his two seasons with the Phoenix, leading the league in rebounds in both campaigns. A force inside, his rebounding and finishing ability at times made him the best big man in the competition.
Despite being hampered by injury, Williams’ impact in games was profound, highlighted by almost 40-straight games where he scored double-digits. A native Phoenician, it would be kismet that he would land at the Phoenix and his legacy will forever be etched in South East Melbourne’s history books.
YANNI WETZELL
Games: 39 | PPG: 11.2 | RPG: 6.0 | APG: 1.6 | SPG: 0.7
Wetzell was a dominant big in his two seasons with the Phoenix on both the defensive and offensive end. A key conduit for the play-making guards who could rely on the big Kiwi to finish off in the post, the 208cm centre was a constant in the highlight reels.
He put many an opposition player on posters, highlighted by new Phoenix recruit Jordan Hunter who was blocked, then posterised on the other end, all by Wetzell.
