The South East Melbourne Phoenix is proud to announce a new partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s Love the Game program for the NBL22 season.
“Becoming a Love the Game partner is a way of continuing to contribute to our community,” Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said today. “We’re very engaged with young people and we want them to love basketball for the game, just as our players do.”
“We’re very proud to be a Love the Game partner and to support the Foundation’s great work through our network of more than 65,000 basketball association members in the south-east of Melbourne, the basketball camps we host and school clinics we run.”

Foundation CEO Shane Lucas said he was delighted to welcome the Phoenix to the Love the Game program, which means the club has made a commitment to say no to sports betting sponsorships.
“Research has shown that young men between 18 and 24 years are the largest group – 32 per cent – of sports bettors in Victoria, while participation among young women is rising. They are the first generation to have grown up with sports betting ads,” he said.
“The Phoenix is sending a message to the basketball community that sport and betting do not have to go together.”
Phoenix joins 600+ clubs across a range of sporting codes in Victoria that have joined Love the Game, reflecting the passion and desire of Victorians to protect young people from sports gambling promotions.
The Foundation works in partnership with people and organisations across the state to prevent and reduce gambling-related harm and to provide support to those affected.
Anyone negatively affected by their own or someone else’s gambling can access confidential free advice, support and referral 24/7 on 1800 858 858.
