Phoenix Keep Each Other Honest

A culture of honesty is driving the South East Melbourne Phoenix this NBL season.
Mitch Creek joined the RSN Breakfast Club this morning and spoke about where the team is at, and what is driving them this season.
"I think we are just scratching the surface of what we are capable of on both ends of the floor offensively and defensively," he said. "We won our first three games, then got smacked in the next two and everyone was off us, we had the worst defensive rating in the league, I think that was the fire that needed to be lit under us, pull your head in your not as good as you think."
(Creek believes there is more that Phoenix are capable of on the court.)
Some lacklustre training sessions were called out by the coaching staff, and since then the team has lifted it's intensity on the court and at training.
"Before those three wins we weren't doing the little things at training we weren’t boxing out, we weren't diving on loose balls we were being soft. And that's the nice way to put it, the coaches definitely lit us up. We can look at each other and keep ourselves accountable but a little fire from the coaches sometimes is what we need," he said.
After a 3-0 start the Phoenix fell to 3-2 before reeling of three straight wins to sit atop the NBL table at 6-2.
(Creek has praised the coaches for helping the team to get their energy up on court and in training.)
"We are doing all we can to be the best we can be, we understand there will be ebbs and flows, but we need to just stay at a happy medium, we are all pushing in the one direction," Creek said.
The Phoenix next take on the Perth Wildcats on Saturday night in the clubs first ever Lunar New Year Game, will be presented by Otterbox and supported by National Foundation for Australia-China Relations.
