South East Melbourne Phoenix recognise volunteering as a respected and critical role within basketball and the wider sporting community. As National Volunteer Week commences, we are proud to announce that we are an official supporter of the Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan.
As an official supporter, we are committed to taking action within the basketball community to help improve the experience of our volunteers and to attract and retain more volunteers within our sport and organisation.
Since the establishment of our volunteer program, Heartland Crew, Phoenix has had more than 200 volunteers dedicate over 10,000 hours to the club over our first four seasons in the NBL.
(Phoenix are an official supporter for the Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan.)
The Heartland Crew volunteers get the opportunity to work across a variety of departments at Phoenix home games including, corporate hospitality, membership, operations, event presentation, while networking with professionals in the sporting industry.
“We are proud to support the Australian Sports Commission Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan, highlighting as a club what we do with our volunteer program. Our Heartland Crew play an integral role and are the backbone for our game days,” said Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer.
The Sport Volunteer Coalition has developed a four-year Action Plan, to enable more Australians to volunteer in sports and enhance the sport volunteering experience. The four strategic themes for the Action Plan are to Celebrate, Empower, Reimagine, and Innovate volunteers in the sports industry.

Through this Action Plan, the ASC and Sport Volunteer Coalition will showcase the health and wellbeing benefits of volunteering in sports for individuals and communities.
Official supporters of the Action Plan, including Phoenix, will continue to enhance the volunteer experience and encourage new volunteers to join their sport.
