South East Melbourne Phoenix have recorded their biggest win as a franchise opening Round 10 with an emphatic win over the Hawks.

The refs dominated the first half with 32 fouls sending both teams to the foul line again and again. A good finish to the first half, that ended with a Junior Madut three and the Phoenix went into the half up by eight, 58-50.

The Phoenix ramped up the defence to start the third and went on a 29-9 run and the game was over.

The last quarter allowed the Phoenix faithful to celebrate with the bench as Owen Foxwell, Anzac Rissetto, Junior Madut, and Great Anticevich kept the party rolling on both ends of the floor.

Phoenix now have two days rest before their final home game at the Fire Pit on Sunday which doubles as Member Appreciation game against the Adelaide 36ers.

The Play of the Game

Junior 3

The Phoenix wet 16/27 from beyond the arc, but it was three on the half time buzzer from Madut that turned the momentum the home teams way.

Player of the Game

Ryan Broekhoff

Broekhoff is back, Rowdy started slowly  but a little extra on a screen from Mathiang bought the Frankston out in him. Broekhoff answered with a corner three and a strong drive, finishing 3-6 from the land of plenty and top scoring with 21 points and adding 7 rebounds.

From the Coach

“Defensively there was some real poor plays for us for the first half and then we locked down and put in one of the best performance any team has done this year.”

From the Player

Ryan Broekhoff

“I think we have so many weapons, some nights it’s my turn to get some shots, some nights other guys. We spread the load well.”
