Maldonado most recently played for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in the German Basketball Bundesliga and has spent time in the NBA G-League with the Oklahoma City Blue.
A 6”6 combo guard with the ability to slide up to the wing position, Maldonado’s versatility and size made him an appealing prospect for the Phoenix.
The 26-year-old played with Division I NCAA team Wyoming, before becoming a professional, where he claimed a G-League Championship with Oklahoma City.
South East Melbourne Phoenix head coach Josh King praised Maldonado’s traits both on-and-off court and said he’d fit the Phoenix values perfectly.
“Hunter is a multiple-year pro, he plays fast, and he’s won a championship so has that winning pedigree that is invaluable,” King said.
“Above all, he’s got great character, and he embodies the values that we have at the Phoenix, so aside from being a great basketball player, he’s a great person too.”
The Phoenix have one local and one import spot remaining to fill on their roster for the NBL26 season.
