Phoenix head coach Josh King heaped praise on his squad in the immediate aftermath of South East Melbourne’s devastating Game 3 loss to the Adelaide 36ers on Tuesday night.
Rather than unleashing fire and brimstone after a second straight semi-final exit, King took a different approach.
“The team has nothing to be ashamed of, and they should walk out of the building with their heads held high,” he told media post-game.
“They’ve really elevated the bar at South East Melbourne.
“We had a hell of a season… this group supported each other all year long. They rooted for each other and celebrated each other’s success.”
The Phoenix have laid strong foundations for the future, emerging as one of the league’s most potent offensive teams. The next step? Securing King’s future.
“I think we’re the most exciting team to watch in the NBL with the way we play night in and night out,” he said.
“I love being in South East Melbourne. I love being in Australia. It’s an amazing place to be, and the league is great.
“I see myself being back. I love the direction this program is headed.”
