Fans will get a taste of the NBL’s biggest rivalry when the Phoenix host Melbourne United at the State Basketball Centre this pre-season.
The fixture, slated for Saturday, August 31 at 7pm, will see two largely new rosters turn out for the first time ahead of the Hungry Jack’s NBL25 season.
For the home fans, the likes of Joe Wieskamp, Derrick Walton Jr, Nathan Sobey and Next Star Malique Lewis will feature for the first time in the Heartland, amongst some other new and returning faces.

United are coming off a second-place finish last season, and the Phoenix will look to claim the early bragging rights after being unable to topple their cross-town counterparts throughout the NBL24 season.
Supporters of the Phoenix will also see the newly renovated show courts at the State Basketball Centre, which will play host to three Phoenix fixtures throughout January 2025.
Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said the game would not only be a great spectacle, but a great chance for the fans in the Heartland to see yet another game out of the home base.
“Any time we play United it’s always big, but to play on our court, in front of our fans, makes it just that extra bit special,” Greer said.
“I’d encourage everyone to get your tickets and see the new-look team in action, it’s going to be a great watch.”
