Ryan Broekhoff Arrives at the Phoenix

Boomers sharpshooter and former NBA guard Ryan Broekhoff arrived at South East Melbourne Phoenix headquarters today for his first day at the club and debut training session.
Broekhoff left Sydney yesterday after finishing a two-week hotel quarantine period with his wife and young son and joined the team’s practice this morning at the State Basketball Centre.
The Phoenix play three times this week starting on Wednesday night against Melbourne United.
No decision on a debut game has been made yet. He will be assessed daily.
"It’s great to finally be back on court. It’s definitely good to get some of the cobwebs out," Broekhoff said.
"It was an interesting first half of training but I felt better towards the end and started getting a lot better.
"It’ll be a little while to get back into full rhythm and obviously the conditioning level you need to be at to play. It’s day one so I’ll see how I recover from today; I got through it with no problems but there were times where I was a little bit fatigued, little bit tired and trying to catch my breath. We’ll just see how we build from today.
"We haven’t set a timetable (on my debut), we haven’t set a game. It’s just a day-to-day process of making sure I get used to playing again, used to playing with the guys and getting integrated into the system…and make sure I’m up to a level where I’ll help the team when I do come back and not have them carry me along for a few games while I find rhythm. Hopefully it won’t be too long but we haven’t set a date.
"It’s great to be back on court and around the excitement of playing again. I’m ready to get back as soon as possible but trying to be smart about it as well."
The 30-year-old is hoping to put together a strong NBL season for the Phoenix and then represent Australia at the Tokyo Olympics.
