South East Melbourne Phoenix head coach, Simon Mitchell joined SEN Mornings today to talk about the upcoming NBL22 campaign.
“After the disruptions of last season, we are all past that and we just want to get into the real thing,” he said.

Phoenix finished 2-2 after the Blitz, with Mitchell and the Phoenix using the pre-season to experiment and get the new recruits’ minutes.
“Every team uses it for their own purposes…. we got what we needed out of it for sure.
“First two weeks in the Blitz there were areas we need to focus on, and we will continue to do that as we prepare for the Breakers,” he said.
Mitchell spoke on sharpshooter Ryan Broekhoff, who has improved in the Blitz and is reminding people of his diverse skill set.
“Seeing the complete package of Ryan Broekhoff back into the mix is pleasing," Mitchell said.
When asked about Zhou Qi fitness, Mitchell was adamant on the big man being good to go, after he suffered slight ankle sprain after competing with the Chinese national team in Japan.
“He is something we haven’t seen before at this level in the NBL," Mitchell said.
“Avoid googling (Zhou Qi) and buy a ticket to the game on Saturday night.”

Phoenix has won the last five regular season games against the New Zealand Breakers, with Mitchell commenting on their class on paper.
“It’s going to be a good match,” the Head Coach said.
Phoenix will take on the NZ Breakers at John Cain Arena on Saturday night, December 4 at 8pm, with a spectacular pre-game entertainment show as the team play in front of Melbourne fans for the first time since mid-2021.
