Sobey was a shining light for the Phoenix, averaging 17.3 points, 4.5 assists and 4.4 rebounds throughout the NBL25 campaign.

In his first year in South East Melbourne, Sobey was appointed co-captain of the squad - a testament to his immediate impact on the team and strong leadership qualities.

Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said the signing would be a great continuation of a burgeoning partnership.

“Nathan made an indelible mark on the Phoenix immediately and his influence both on and off the court can’t be understated,” Mitchell said.

“We look forward to having Nathan back to the Heartland as we continue to build the list for what looms as a big season for South East Melbourne.”

Sobey echoed the sentiment, speaking from Puerto Rico where he is currently playing for Santeros de Aguada during the off-season.

“I’m excited to head back to the Phoenix and continue to build on what we started last season under Josh King,” Sobey said.

“Playing at home, in front of my family and the Phoenix fans of the Heartland is something I cherish and I’m really excited to get back and chase that championship next season.”
