The Victorian Government, in partnership with Knox City Council, is delivering an expanded State Basketball Centre to make it Australia’s premier basketball facility.
The Victorian Government, in partnership with Knox City Council, is delivering an expanded State Basketball Centre to make it Australia’s premier basketball facility.
Since works commenced in 2021, the State Basketball Centre redevelopment is progressing well, when completed later this year, it will be the home of basketball in Victoria, from grass roots to elite competitions.
Once completed, the centre is set to be the long-term home for Knox Basketball Inc and its 11,000-strong members. It is estimated the centre will host up to two million visitors a year, incorporating elite level basketball, major events, local competitions and community programming.
It will include:
• 12 new indoor courts (total of 18)
• new high-performance training and administration facilities for basketball, including WNBL and NBL teams
• new administration facilities to support organisations like Basketball Victoria, Basketball Australia, Knox Basketball and WNBL / NBL teams
• a regional gymnastics facility
• a new café, town square and car parking upgrades with landscaping.

Project update
• Asphalt has been laid for the northern carpark as well as kerb and channels.
• Light poles have also been installed and landscaping has begun.
• Concrete ground slab (concrete placed in a trench to support the building) for the Town Square is now complete.
• Concrete ground slab for the basketball courts is now complete.
• Roof installation on the basketball courts continues.
• Structural steel installation for the High Performance building is complete
Did you know?
• The total area for the new build of the State Basketball Centre is a huge 20,000 square metres.
• The State Basketball Centre will have created more than 500 jobs by its completion, expected in 2023.
• The project includes 1250 tonnes of structural steel.
• The project has engaged 30 women and 11 Indigenous employees across various management and trade roles.
• 90% of materials used from local suppliers, including the structural steel which has been fabricated in Campbellfield.
• 81,803 cumulative hours of labour hours for trainees, cadets and apprentices.
