"I think time is their friend, and the fact they're able to have the FIBA break when they did allows Josh King's game plan emphasis,” Williams told the NBL Now podcast.
The Phoenix, who began the season 0-5, have had a mini resurgence claiming wins in five of their past eight encounters, with their defensive rating skyrocketing .
"In order for them to make the playoffs, make the finals and have success, they're going to have to be really locked in on the defensive side of the ball."
Alongside their defensive showing, Williams has been impressed with Phoenix import Matt Hurt.
"I think his game translates well into the NBL.
“I think he is one of those guys that would be successful in any league that he played in just because his skill set is out of this world. He is super tall and super long, finishes well around the basket, and obviously, his jump shot is money."
The Phoenix have a chance to start the second half of their season on the right foot with their clash against the third-placed Illawarra Hawks on Saturday, November 30, at John Cain Arena.
