Phoenix guard Derrick Walton Jr will miss approximately three weeks with a grade one hamstring strain.
Walton Jr suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s Throwdown victory against Melbourne United, with MRI scans revealing the extent of the setback today.
Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said Walton Jr’s recovery would be a top priority.
“It’s a shame to lose one of the league’s best playmakers, but we have tremendous cover at the position. The priority for Derrick and the medical team over the next few weeks will be to work diligently in the rehab space, get him back on the floor and keep him there for the remainder of the season” Mitchell said.
The Phoenix travel to New Zealand to face the Breakers on Thursday, ahead of a home clash with Illawarra on Saturday.
