Phoenix centre Alan Williams will undergo surgery on Monday, ruling him out of the remainder of the NBL24 regular season.

The 203cm American will have an exploratory meniscectomy on his right knee to rectify an injury that he has played through since receiving a knock against Brisbane three weeks ago.

This is separate to the operation Williams had on his left knee that sidelined him at the beginning of the season.

Phoenix Head of High Performance Eric Hollingsworth said the surgery would hopefully relieve the pain Williams was experiencing during the week and on game day.

“Alan will undergo this surgery in hopes of him returning to full fitness after a tough few weeks where he has played and trained under duress,” Hollingsworth said.

“Alan will remain an integral part of the group during his rehab period as a vocal leader in the team as we aim for a playoff berth at the back end of this season.”

Williams is currently the league leader for rebounds – a title he claimed last season – averaging 10.9 rebounds per game.

Anzac Rissetto will be elevated to the full roster in Williams’ absence.
