Former NBA guard Xavier Munford arrived in South East Melbourne for his first training session at the Phoenix earlier today.
The 29-year-old American arrived in town last night after two weeks of hotel quarantine in Brisbane, having flown in from the United States.

Munford is expected to start at point guard for the Phoenix this season, replacing the now-Indiana Pacers guard Keifer Sykes.
A series of physical testing followed by a light shootaround was the schedule for his first session as he builds his fitness up ahead of the team’s October 11 pre-season start.
“I feel great. It felt good to get out here, meet the guys, get familiar with the coaching staff, work on my body and get some shots up,” he said.
“They all seem like great guys, I can’t wait to get started. It seems like we have a good group here; everyone has a common goal of winning; great personalities; no ego’s; it seems great so far.”

Munford is also keen to see what Australia has to offer off the basketball court.
“I’ve heard many good things about Australia so I’m ready to get out there, walk around and do the most I can do within the restrictions,” he said.
But one thing that may take some time is driving on the left side of the road.
“I’m taking a lot of time with the driving,” he laughed.
“I haven’t got behind the wheel yet because I don’t want to make any mistakes. It’s definitely a culture shock on the other side of the road.”
The Phoenix have one roster spot remaining, likely to be another import.
