Phoenix head coach Josh King will use his off-season to develop overseas, taking charge of Mets de Guaynabo for the remainder of the Baloncesto Superior Nacional season in Puerto Rico.
Mets, formerly the off-season home of Phoenix favourites Mitch Creek and Gary Browne, are currently second-to-last in their conference - having just parted ways with former head coach and NBA Champion JJ Barea.
King jumped at the opportunity to take on an off-season role and hopes to use what he gains in Puerto Rico during the NBL26 season with South East Melbourne.
“I’m excited to head to a new place and keep developing my coaching skills,” King told Phoenix Media.
“I’m always learning, and there’s hopefully things I learn in the Americas that I can bring back to Australia.
The Mets currently boast five-time NBL MVP Bryce Cotton, who King is also looking to be on the same side of, after falling foul of the Cotton-led Wildcats throughout the season.
“We all know how good Bryce has been, so to get to know him personally and coach him is an exciting prospect.”
Mets’s first fixture on King’s arrival will have a distinct Phoenix feel about it, the team taking on Nathan Sobey’s Santeros de Aguada on Wednesday.
King will take control of the team next week and is currently making the 40-hour journey to the Americas from Melbourne alongside his family.
