South East Melbourne Phoenix have informed the NBL that no contracted players or staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
Phoenix staff and players went into self-isolation on July 29 and underwent testing. The entire squad, including staff, remained in isolation until they returned a second negative test. This has now occurred and the club will work with the Department of Health and Human Services and the NBL on a plan to return to training.
Four non-contracted players who spent time at Phoenix training at the State Basketball Centre returned positive tests and the club is working with the NBL and the Australian Basketball Players’ Association (ABPA) to provide support for them.
Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said: “It’s important we all remain vigilant and maintain the highest standards of health and safety as we prepare the forthcoming season to protect not just our players and staff but to minimise any risk to the wider community.”
