Going 2-0 after the FIBA break, the Phoenix have shot up to 3rd on the ladder at 8-6.
Phoenix captain Mitch Creek voiced how pivotal the win on Sunday was for his side for the second half of the season.
“We went there (Sydney) with a shortened roster but one that was capable of being a very dangerous team. We knew that everybody knew that, and it was about stepping up and playing the best brand of basketball,” Creek said on SEN on Monday.
“To go into Sydney and get that win was mega.”

The Phoenix will meet cross-town rivals Melbourne United on Thursday for Throwdown XXIII.
The task will be made all the more mighty for the Phoenix, United already leading the ledger 2-0 and sitting atop the NBL table with a formidable 11-3 record.
“We know anytime we play Melbourne, it’s going to be a big one. We don’t want to lose those ones, especially against them. We need to go out, and we need to hit first,” he said.
“If we play the brand of basketball offensively and especially defensively like we did the last two games, we are going to put ourselves in an amazing position.”

The Phoenix announced the signing of an ex-NBA small forward with over 200 NBA games under his belt, Abdel Nader, to the roster. He will arrive in Melbourne on Thursday and hope to lace up for Saturday’s game in Gippsland.
