DREWITT'S BULBS MATCH REPORT: Phoenix suffer first home loss in three months

Despite a spirited attempt, the Phoenix never led from start to finish, though Nathan Sobey’s incredible efforts kept the hosts in the contest from start to finish.

A win tonight for the Phoenix would’ve had them one step closer to clinching a spot in the post-season, though the machinations of the loss would be felt league-wide on the NBL standings.

Sobey’s 28 points and four rebounds largely was a solo effort for the first half, though Owen Foxwell (15 points) hit the scoreboard late to keep the packed out crowd in full voice.

Matt Hurt was slow off the blocks but the MVP candidate posted 11 points and nine rebounds, predominantly responsible for Kings spearhead Xavier Cooks who fell foul of the refs early.

South East Melbourne dragged the scoreboard back late within seven points after trailing by 23 - coach Josh King drawing the positives out from the box score.

Sydney coach Brian Goorjian told reporters post game that it was their ‘best win of the year’ having heaped praise on the Phoenix side earlier.
