New South East Melbourne Phoenix recruit Tanner Krebs says the heartbreak of falling short in consecutive title campaigns with Melbourne United is fuelling his hunger ahead of NBL27.
Krebs admitted the near misses still sit heavily with him, revealing thoughts of a championship remain a daily motivator.
“Every day I kind of think about it, to be honest — how close we were,” Krebs said.
“We talk about legacy a lot. And for me, when it’s all said and done, that’s what I want. I want to be Tanner Krebs, NBL champion. I want that under my name.”
The versatile wing said he is prepared to do “whatever it takes” to help deliver success at the Phoenix, adding he believes the club’s playing group shares the same ambition.
Krebs also opened up on overcoming the injury setbacks that plagued the early stages of his career, saying improving his durability became a major focus after arriving at United.
“At the start of my career I was pretty injury-prone and I had some unfortunate, weird injuries too,” he said.
“When I got to Melbourne, that was a big key for me — my durability and how long I could stay on the floor and continue to get consistent games under my belt.”
Now one of the NBL’s most reliable players, Krebs credited his off-court preparation and body management for helping transform his career trajectory.
