New South East Melbourne guard Matt Kenyon will suit up for the third NBL side of his career next season – and his time in the professional game has given him a strong idea of what he wants to bring to the table.
After beginning his career with the Brisbane Bullets before heading to the NBA G-League, Kenyon made his return to the NBL as a member of the inaugural Tasmania JackJumpers side, and had embedded himself as a key rotational piece in the high-flying side.
A new challenge awaits with the Phoenix though, and he says he’s focused on being the best teammate he can be.

“[I want to] play basketball the right way and just help my teammates,” Kenyon said. “Just a happy guy. Happy to come into work ago … a good bloke, a good human.
“[And] try to uplift everyone.
“I had two really good years in Tassie but now I think it’s time for me to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone a bit.
“We’ve got a great group at South East, and I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone.”
That “great group” Kenyon alluded too, while possessing quality, still has some growing to do before NBL24 tips off.
Kenyon is the second signing made by new head coach Mike Kelly after former Brisbane Bullet Gorjok Gak.
The pair joins established stars Alan Williams and Mitch Creek on the roster, while Reuben Te Rangi and Owen Foxwell are currently the only other two fully rostered players.
Anzac Rissetto has also re-signed for the club as a development player.
“I’m excited to work alongside a lot of they guys,” Kenyon said. “I think we have a really good group, but obviously ‘Creeky’ is at that MVP level every year.
“It’s going to be exciting to play with him. I love how he competes and gets after it every single night which is cool.
“Alan Williams is another great player. It’s pretty cool that he’s signed and I’m excited to play with him too.
“I’m just really excited to get amongst it, get into Melbourne and just meet everyone.”
