South East Melbourne Phoenix have established an Advisory Board to guide the organisation’s growth over the coming years.
The board includes an abundance of well-renowned and experienced business figures from a range of industry backgrounds, including Cotton On CEO, Peter Johnson, and Bondi Sands Owner, Blair James.
The advisory board will help build the profile of the club by offering strategic and commercial advice and providing ongoing evaluation of the Phoenix’s business path.
A crucial aspect of the group is the fact several of the group's members grew up in and are still heavily involved in the South East Melbourne region and its basketball associations, signifying they’ll bring grass roots know-how and a deep understanding of the community.
The group will add insights across the entire scope of the business, including partnerships, membership, hospitality, retail, marketing and digital / social media.
Phoenix Chief Commercial Officer Anoop Singh says the board’s collective business success and links to the South East region set the organisation up to thrive into the future.
“It started from an idea about 12 months ago to get strategic, well-connected people that are passionate about basketball in this country, that have been to Phoenix games or are Phoenix fans, and get them involved in the club in a more purposeful basis to help aid decision making,” Singh said.
“There are a lot of successful people on this board who can help drive this club forward.”
With immense collective intel and experience in the corporate world, the board will open doors for the Phoenix both in Australia and internationally, alongside the club’s ownership group lead by US entrepreneur Romie Chaudhari. The ownership group also includes former NBA stars Zach Randolph, Josh Childress and Al Harrington as well as Australian NBA guard Dante Exum.
The involvement of Ashley Klein and Kerrie Brewer will also strengthen the Phoenix’s bond through their strategic partnership with the Hawthorn Football Club, established at the inception of the franchise.
