After a successful partnership in NBL22, South East Melbourne Phoenix is proud to re-commit to the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation’s Love the Game program for NBL23.
“It’s amazing to be involved and continue to be a Love the Game partner,” said Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer. “We have a strong relationship with our community and we want to continue to engage with young people to love the game of basketball, as much as our players and organisation do.”
The Love the Game Program will have activations at selected home games throughout the NBL23 season.
(Phoenix fans will be able to learn more at VRGF activiations at selected home games.)
Phoenix joins 700+ clubs across a range of sporting codes in Victoria as partners of Love the Game, reflecting the passion and desire of Victorians to protect young people from sports gambling promotion.
“This continued partnership with the Phoenix will help young basketball fans better understand the risks of sports betting,” said Foundation CEO Shane Lucas.
“Gambling advertising is everywhere. Teams, like the Phoenix, that model positive behaviour are influencing the way young people think about gambling, and challenging the perception that gambling only ever leads to fun and winning.
“With young men aged 18–24 years making up a third of sports bettors in Victoria, and participation by women in the same age group increasing, it’s important that we remind young people to love the game, not the odds.”
